The Second Wave – 7.30am – 9.00am (0730-0900) 1 July 1916

0095

The second wave of troops leaves the trenches on the Somme on 1 July 1916. Note the amount of kit carried, casual attitude of the soldiers already “over the top”, the shells bursting in the distance of small calibre and yet the expression of the very young soldier in the foreground. Like this photo. It will fit perfectly in my site to envisage the 17th Manchesters fully laden and leaving their assembly trenches in the second wave of the assault on Montauban. http://17thmanchesters.wordpress.com/the-big-push/ Looks like gwpda is a good site for pics.
