Here are some of the many 5 star reviews for the book to date….

★★★★★ A Great Read

A thrilling account, well written and I could not put it down. Moved to the point that I will be visiting the Somme.

★★★★★ Captivating

Beautifully written, telling the story of ordinary human aspirations in desperate times, the book evokes a deep sense of gratitude for the sacrifices made. Of course, it’s impossible not to fall in love with William!

★★★★★ Gripping and vivid

The Mad Game is a wonderfully written account of life in the trenches. Graphic, descriptive, evocative and an emotional journey for the reader. The account of the battle is incredibly vivid, putting the reader in the centre of the battles. I did not know the War was like that, and I am all the more thankful for the sacrifice. I would not just recommend this book, I would urge everyone to read it. The characters are beautifully conceived, clearly researched and I fell a little bit in love with William. A book for men and women. Thank you for the story.

★★★★★ A Must Read!

Once I began to read this exciting tale it was impossible to put down. I highly recommend buying such a gripping novel that elicits such a deep emotional response. You can clearly tell the author has put in such amazingly hard work into crafting this masterpiece. This book deserves at least 7 stars.

★★★★★ Gripping

A story of travel, love, loss and hope; The Mad Game is gripping. Historically well researched the story sets the scene of a peaceful setting with war drums in the distance. I particularly enjoyed the pace of this story. Too many books linger on the detail or rush significant points. The Mad Game finds a happy level.

★★★★★ Gripping

This book had me gripped from start to finish. It was a journey through the horrors of war through the eyes of a brave young man whose love for a young French girl carried him through many dark days. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster as I was able to vividly imagine each chapter – this was entirely due to the skilful writing of the author who clearly has put a lot of thought, research and planning into this

★★★★★ I really enjoyed the story

I’m not really one for a story of romance and war but I really did enjoy this one. Having had a grandfather who fought in France with a Pals regiment and returned a damaged man I felt like I was there with him tasting the horror of the conflict along with the mud, blood and body parts. As you progress through the story you will be absorbed by the main character’s emotions and inner most feelings along with his will to survive the horrific conflict. This book is extremely well researched and written, it will hold your attention from the first page walking you through a story that can be visualised. It is also written with great sensitivity and an understanding of human emotions. Next !!!

★★★★★ Beautifully written tale of broken hearts and broken souls

A beautifully crafted tale of difficult times, true love and paying the ultimate price for freedom. Gripping from the start with excellent detail and description which makes it easy to imagine the horror these men endured and the worry those left behind must have felt. I would think it impossible not to be moved by this story, the very thought of our ancestors going through that kind of hell is utterly heart breaking but there is a simple line that any parent will crumble at reading, “I am proud of you son”. Every girl dreams of a man who will fight for her love, but a fight so brutal and harsh…..we can only imagine, thankfully. Already looking forward to the next instalment…
